...because you will need yourself sometime in the future.
I'm looking for 5 brethren to help. Here are the details.
Where: Dave Thomas home
When: This Saturday, July 19, 2008 at 8:00am to 11:00am (could be sooner if he have more brethren)
What: Tearing out his old deck. (3 guys ripping, 3 guys hauling it to stock pile on property)
Dave has no idea that we will be coming to help him out. So it is a "SURPRISE SERVICE PROJECT". Let's make it count.
Any questions that you might have let me know. Have a great day!
Sincerely,
President Bowman

Everyone,
I just received this and forwarding it to you. Do your best.

Subject: URGENT: Thursday 11:45 AM Sandbagging Update!

Bishops and Leaders:
Bishop Stanley just received a call from the Winfield Fire Department. They wondered if we could get a crew of people (not children) to go up to Winfield to assist them with placing sandbags on the levee to strengthen it. They think that if this not donethey could very well lose the levee today. This evening will be too late.
We are making contact with the missionaries, but if you know of any other men or older boys who could assist right away, it would be wonderful.
Thank you.
We'll be providing more information later today about a need for help from all Wards on Saturday. Stay tuned.

Thanks to all who participated in sandbagging efforts yesterday! According to one of our members who was in Winfield and Old Monroe all day yesterday, our yellow T-shirt crews bagged at least 300 of the 400 tons of sand delivered to the Winfield High School! He is confident we would have lost the battle at Old Monroe if not for our forces.
At the current time, there is no need for sandbaggers. We'll let you know if that status changes.
We believe the next opportunity for service will be in distributing flood relief kits and assisting in the massive cleanup effort. Thank you again for your service.

If any groups are organized to go up there this evening and don't have the yellow T-shirts, please call me and we'll figure out a way to get you the shirts you need. We want to make sure everyone who works has one. Thank you!

Thanks so much, Bishop Stanley for the update!

I know we said earlier that they wouldn’t need anyone after 6:00 PM…That’s how quickly things are changing…Thanks to all for your flexibility and willingness to help!

Today we had a great turnout of our members at the Winfield sandbagging sight. I counted 85 yellow shirts, plus an additional 20 or so missionaries who helped not only fill bags, but placed them as needed near the flood zone. As of right now, we are out of sand, but an additional 200 tons or so will be coming by 4:00 PM. Anyone who would like to help out tonight is welcome and needed. Plenty of food, drink, shovels and gloves is available, so just bring bodies. Children as young as six or eight can help.

Brethren,

We were told by officials in Winfield this evening that they will have 200 tons of sand delivered and ready for tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. Anyone that can assist between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. would be much appreciated. Please do not head up there after 6:00 p.m. because they anticipate they will finish with this new delivery of sand by that time.

Thank you to Warrenton Ward and any others who were able to help knock out the 170 tons so quickly this afternoon that they ran out!

Anyone who goes up there should be sure to ask around for one of the "Mormon Helping Hands" bright yellow T-shirts to wear!

Thanks to all.

UPDATE: as of 6:00 p.m.

There was such a wonderful response this afternoon, that they used up all their sand supply again. They are asking for help again tomorrow morning - anytime after 9:00 a.m.

Sorry for all the changes, but this situation changes about every hour!

Thanks brethren.

If something changes for tomorrow, we'll let you know via email.

Brethren,

There is a real need for those willing to fill sandbags again at the Winfield high school. They are trying to fight against a 2nd major levee breach. We understand that operations will cease at 9:00 p.m. this evening and start again at 6:00 a.m.

Any and all who are able to help should head to the high school (Take Hwy 79 north to Hwy 47, go left, up the hill, and the high school is on the left), and look for the yellow T-shirts!
